Pipe Dreams – NOWNESS

“For anyone who’s had any experience with a glass pipe,” explains director Maclean Jackson of his mind-blowing new film—co-directed with Stephen K Schuster and Steven Brahms—“it’s always something personal.” The directorial trio’s film intimately explores the characters of different pipes, from mass produced objects and pop culture novelties to homemade bowls and ornamental custom pieces. “We take a sculptural approach to celebrate their shape, design and color,” explains the filmmaker of their glassy short, “showing how each one is interesting in its own way. We wanted to both embrace the “stoner aesthetic” that is traditionally associated with pipes and subvert it with a playfully dramatic quality. Then we worked with friend, Jiro Kohl, to begin shaping the structure and brought in multidisciplinary creative, Daveion Thompson to edit the film. Conceptual composer, Alabaster, created the film’s original soundtrack. Colorist, Sofie Borup graded the footage, and Alexandra Lubrano was the color producer.”
