Jack Shore’s on Fire

Jack Shore’s on Fire is a short documentary about the young Welsh mixed martial arts prospect, Jack Shore and his father Richard Shore during the lead up to Jack’s biggest fight to date on Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 83, May 6th, 2017.

Proud Welshman Richard Shore is the head coach at the renowned MMA academy ‘Tillery Combat’ based in Abertillery, in South Wales.

For me, this has been the project I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Being involved within the martial arts community for nearly 10 years, I’ve experienced a lot of the highs and lows within the sport. I wanted to show the world how beautiful this sport is. The process of training for a competition is often more difficult than the fight itself, this is the side that many people don’t see in MMA. I drove the narrative from a fathers perspective as he prepares and watches his son prepare for competition.

I wanted to create something very authentic and raw, something that everyone can relate too. One of my objectives with this film was to showcase a different side of fighting. It’s not just two guys brawling in a cage. A lot of hard work, skill and preparation goes into it behind the scenes that not many people know about. Hopefully after watching this people are a little more open-minded about the sport.

Mixed martial arts is the fastest growing sport of all time. In the last 10 years it has exploded into the mainstream unlike other sports.

In 2013, Conor McGregor entered the UFC and became the biggest superstar of all time. Not only did he promote the sport, but he represented his country and brought Irish MMA to a new level. I believe we are just starting to see the same effect from Welsh MMA, with fighters Jack Marshman (Tillery Combat – First ever Welsh UFC fighter) and Brett Johns (CRA) already competing inside the UFC’s octagon, representing our nation.

I really hope you enjoy this film, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this project or my work.
