Paul Burns created Fireclay Tile in 1986. Its tiles are made from recycled and locally sourced materials, and every day an average of 300 tiles are painted by hand and 4,500 square feet of clay are extruded. It’s a benefit corporation dedicated to sustainable manufacturing practices and using recycled materials. The clay is mixed and extruded, cut, and glazed. From there, any designs are hand painted. Each tile is touched by seven pairs of hands before being shipped out.
