The big-screen return of Lord and Lady Grantham, their family, and their servants is finally here, making good on a promise that was made just shortly after the wildly popular TV series ‘Downton Abbey’ ended its run in 2015. The new film — already Certified Fresh — catches up with everyone in 1927 as they prepare for a visit from King George and Queen Mary, and ahead of its release, RT got the opportunity to chat with Robert and Cora Crawley themselves, Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern. Editor Jacqueline Coley sat down with McGovern and Bonneville in the RT studio and talked about the enduring popularity of the show, recalling ther favorite moments, exploring how their characters grew over the course of the series, and trying to explain the different fandoms in the U.K. and the U.S.
