Coronavirus UK: What next as the Labour Party demands new lockdown? – BBC Newsnight

UK opposition leader, Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer, has called for a short lockdown or “circuit-breaker” in England of two to three weeks to bring the rising rate of coronavirus under control. Please subscribe HERE http://bit.ly/1rbfUog

He said measures were not working and another course is needed to prevent a “sleepwalk into… a bleak winter”.

His call comes after documents revealed government scientific advisers called for such action on 21 September.

Meanwhile, forty-two Conservative MPs rebelled and voted against government regulations linked to the 10pm curfew for pubs and restaurants in England.

Where does Sir Keir Starmer’s intervention leave UK PM Boris Johnson? And is the government running out of time to stop the spread of a second wave?

Newsnight Political Editor Nick Watt reports.
