Airbus has signed a near-record order for its jets. Indian budget airline IndiGo is ordering 300 planes. They are from Airbus’s best-selling A320neo family. And include its newest model – the long-range A321XLR. The deal is worth around 33 billion dollars at list prices. Though airlines usually get big discounts when they order jets in bulk. It will take IndiGo’s fleet of A320neos to 730. And marks one of the biggest-ever orders from a single airline. Back in 1997 U.S. Airways ordered 400 A320s from Airbus, but many of those planes were not ultimately delivered. IndiGo has expanded rapidly to claim almost half the Indian air travel market. Only days ago, however, it posted its biggest-ever quarterly loss, hurt by engine problems on some planes.
